The Bhagawat Purana tells of the ten incarnations of Vishnu and is the most popular of the Puranas. This Special Issue describes the events of the tenth canto which narrates the life of the most beloved god in Hindu mythology - Krishna. Beginning with the miraculous birth of Krishna, the story traces his childhood exploits, including the slaying of dangerous demons and the performing of miraculous acts. The comic also describes Krishna's battle with Kamsa as he retrieves the kingdom of Mathura for his aging grandfather, Ugrasena. . In the Bhagawat, Krishna is seen as a son, brother, husband, friend and warrior.

Over the centuries, the two greatest Indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, have been written in different Indian languages to enable them to reach a wider audience. Poets like Tulsidas, Kamban and krittibas Ojha have all penned down their own versions of these stories in the common language of their regions. The tribal communities also had their own versions in the form of songs and plays that their people could connect to. These versions of Indian epics are a part of our rich Indian heritage which should to be preserved and promoted. In this special collection entitled Rama's ring, Amar Chitra Katha brings together nine lesser-known stories from alternate telling of the two great Indian epics. This is the first time we bring Ramayana stories and Mahabharata stories together in a book. While some tellings in this book are poetic masterpieces in their own right, others are simple folk versions passed down from one generation to the next.

Bhoodevi, the earth, was being ravaged by evil asuras. She turned to the gods for aid but even the powerful trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, were helpless. Concerned by the events, their consorts, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati combined their powers and created Vaishnavi, a woman of unsurpassed strength. Vaishnavi fought and destroyed the asuras but the goddesses asked her to stay on and not return to heaven. Though Vaishnavi did not realize it, her story was only just beginning. Amar Chitra Katha tells the story of Vaishnavi's transformation into the meditating goddess, Vaishno Devi, whose abode in the Himalayas is visited by millions of pilgrims every year.

Born a warrior, he relinquished his kingdom to do penance. When Indra, the Lord of heaven, refused entry to King Trishanku, the sage, known for his determination, created a parallel heaven for the king who had sought his help. He trained Sri Rama and his brother Lakshmana in warfare and taught them the use of celestial weapons to prepare them for the great war they were destined to fight later. An extraordinary sage, Vishwamitra was also a seer whose hymns are part of the sacred Rig Veda.
