Writers barely ever get to see the limelight in the comic book world and if one were to peek into the life of a writer they may be amazed at where some of your favorite storylines came from.
Enter: Terrance Griep.
Griep’s interest in comic books was inspired by his involvement in professional wrestling. His alter-ego as wrestler Tommy “the SpiderBaby” Saturday for Northern Lights Wrestling out of St. Paul. Wrestling characters and super heroes went hand in hand and enabled Griep to connect with the mindset of his characters.
This Connecticut native who has made Minneapolis his home began his writing career simply as begging, going to comic book conventions trying to network and get in the front door or back door if necessary.
“I pestered the editorial staff at DC Comics via unsolicited springboards ‘slush,’ as it's known in the business” Griep said, “until they simply started giving me work as a way of shutting me up. The fact that I could write was nearly irrelevant.”
Terrance is probably best known for his work with DC Comics writing “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?” This year he also penned a story for DC’s “Batman 80-Page Giant 2011 #1” involving “the Question and the Riddler”.
He also writes for Heroic Publishing, writing out stories involving Dr. Arcane, Black Enchatress, Liberty Girl, Icestar and G-Girl.
Coming up from Mansion Comics an eComic called Dark Spectrum, “I'm proud to have a short prose story, ‘UnMask,’ which will be featured therein. In fact, the protagonist of that story, the Illusioneer, will be on the cover” Griep beams.
Also from Mansion, kid-friendly “Kiwi the Fruit Pixie” has two scripts penned by Griep which will be finding a home soon.
From Heroic Publishing, he has written a story where G-Girl meets his wrestling alter ego Tommy “the SpiderBaby”.
Terrance Griep has also written countless articles for publications like Star Trek Monthly, Out, The Advocate, Instinct and television program The Spectator, where he also co-hosts. When there’s free time…he’s tapping out a memoir and a novel.
